And then re-found some pictures of the Series III, including some of the day I bought it. It was so fresh and unbastardised honest back then. Poor thing.

I must get her back OTR. It’s been a year now.

Going to get the rollcage plate rust sorted so you can have that back in for the re-register, or is that a way down the line? I seem to recall you were on track to get replacement kit for the funky NATO lights, at any rate.

The cage mounts are absolutely fine with a wire brush and prime/paint, I’ll just need to weld some uprights onto the outriggers for the mounts to actually connect to some steel rather than resting on the bed bulkhead(?) Yes, got some lights! Need to fit them, but won’t do that until I’ve painted the body and frame. Need to replace leafies all-round, 2 half shaft seals, replace a bump stop that got lost somewhere in the Northumbrian hills, and it’ll pass MOT. Honestly, I can’t wait to get on with it over winter, and Schaefft is going to help me as long as I help him with the Aurora.

Brilliant. Yeah, it beats me how with the SIII frame difference from SIIa of having a bolt point in the middle for seat belts straight to the frame they did that bulkhead-mount tomfoolery. It’s right there, not more than another foot at most - but no. I assume leaf replacement because they’re very tired, not that MOT would fault you for surface rust? If the latter, that’s, well, bizarre.

Schaefft’s Aurora is great, too. I’m going to have to find my way back to Northumberland at some point - hopefully with a little more cash in pocket and time on the calendar. It would amuse if I were doing so with a bag full of US-stock Olds spares...

It’s the former, they’re just looking a bit cakey and red. I took it for a bump around the fields sans-seats after shooting the springs with some Tri Flow, and they loosened quite nicely, but aside from military maintenance (who knows what they replaced), I’m not aware of them ever having been changed. Also, I need to replace the passenger side fuel tank, but that’s not an MOT fail either.

Ha! If you make it, we need: serpentine belt kit inc. tensioner pulley, air filter, and a handbrake cable. There will be more though. Also; don’t get a Corsa, I’ve tidied the barn up, and there are a few new vehicular additions in the farmyard building, including what I think is a 50’s Chevy Fastback.
